Fall for Bird Dog Trainers

Fall is a special time for bird dog trainers. It a season full of preparation and anticipation. As cooler weather rolls in we get a little extra pep in our step and an added twinkle in our eyes knowing that hunting season is approaching. At what age should formal training begin for a bird dog?

A general rule of thumb is that dogs are ready for training at around a year of age. However, there is no magic age. Whether or not a dog is ready for training has to be measured on an individual basis. Every year we offer multiple opportunities for your dog to be professionally trained on wild birds. First, in September, we train bird dogs on sharptail grouse, hungarian partridge, and pheasant.
