Things to do in the Osage
Expansive vistas. Great food. Historic sites. The Osage has a lot to offer!
- Visit the Osage: The Osage Tourism Board's website is chock full of great information on activities and points of interest in the Osage!
- Tall Grass Prairie Preserve: The Joseph H. Williams Tallgrass Prairie Preserve is the largest (39,650 acres) protected remnant of tallgrass prairie left. The Nature Conservancy maintains the preserve through the use of prescribed burning and grazing from thousands of bison.
- Woolaroc: "Hidden away in the rugged Osage Hills, Woolaroc was the ranch retreat of oilman Frank Phillips and is now a 3,700 acre wildlife preserve and world-class art museum. Come and see why Will Rogers called it “the most unique place in this country.”
- Not quite in the Osage, but still worth the short drive to the north, is the true Little House on the Prairie, home of Laura Ingalls and inspiration for her series of children's books.
Lodging
There are a lot of great places to stay while in the area. Few of them appreciate extra dog hairs on their couches, so check with us about boarding your dog with us during your stay. Here are a few places to consider that are unique to Osage County!
- Frontier House: "In the heart of downtown Pawhuska, you will find a uniquely beautiful five-story triangular building (built in 1912) reborn as The Frontier Hotel. With over 20 boutique rooms and located across the street from The Pioneer Women's Mercantile - we are excited to welcome you to “hang your hat” at The Frontier Hotel Pawhuska!"
- The Whiting Hotel Suites: "Built in the 1920's, this Hotel was once all efficiency apartments for newlyweds and workers in the oil field. Over the last 30 years it has been converted into Unique Hotel Suites with different themes for each suite. Furnished with locally resources antiques and local memorabilia. Not only is the Hotel historic but each suite is full of history. Some rooms still have the original Murphy bed frames that have been in use since the 1920's. Surround Yourself with History at the Historic Whiting Hotel Suites."
- The Oilman's Daughter: "A wonderfully renovated 1925 Craftsman home, with four bedrooms, three and a half baths. Relax on the front porch with your morning coffee and with a cool drink at the end of the day. Enjoy the spacious backyard with a patio and fire pit. Grill. Roast marshmallows. Unwind. Offering the luxury of today and the charm of the early 1900s, you will want to come back again and again.
- The Cabin on the Coy T Ranch: "Built in 1900, the cabin, made of native sandstone, sits atop one of the rolling Osage hills. It is fully renovated with hardwood floors, granite countertops, jetted tub, & views out every window! The cabin faces west and the most beautiful sunsets are the evening's entertainment. Guests will enjoy the privacy of being surrounded by ranch land as far as they can see, yet still partake of the town life just 5 miles away."
- The Cottages on the Prairie: "Located in Pawhuska, OK, the Cottages on the Prairie serve as a home away from home while you visit. Just around the corner from Pioneer Woman's Mercantile, it is a perfect location for a weekend getaway from the hustle and bustle of Tulsa or a visit from far away. We want you to feel at home and kick your feet up."
